The conference explored pathways towards a more needs-driven innovation and healthcare policy, where needs are defined in an evidence-based manner and public resources directed towards the most pressing needs of patients and society.
Research funding, regulatory incentives for medical innovation, and the authorisation and reimbursement of healthcare interventions are still too often supply driven, that is responding to developer actions or suggestions, rather than being based on pre-defined priorities on patient and societal needs.
